I've been a little crazed this week (post-vacation catch-up) and am clearly behind on posting this week's prompt (we won't talk about my Week 2 piece, which has yet to make itself. It might be a late night tonight!)
This week we are diving into color... or is it design and andamento?
Week 3 - Nothing is black and white...
...except our projects this week.
We're opening the floodgates on materials (use what you have) but limiting color, you get 2. My plan and suggestion is to use only black and white but, as always, you may deviate (use what you have) - just keep the values of the colors you select in mind. The idea is to see what you can do when you don't have the full spectrum at your disposal. I know I've stopped working on a mosaic thinking "if I just had a color that was in between this one and that one"
Many an artist will tell you that the value of a color is just as, if not more important than the hue. Value is essentially the lightness or darkness (white is on one end of the spectrum black on the other, gray in between). For this piece, use black and white, or colors with values approaching black and white.
Week 3 - To think about
Does/How does color restriction change the way you select or use your materials? What stood out to you as the biggest difficulty in completing your piece and/or what were you able to draw on from past mosaic experience to get it done?
Week 2 Deadline Reminder
Submissions have already started rolling in for Week 2. Please send them to me (firstname.lastname@example.org) by Saturday, June 21st, (otherwise I cannot guarantee that I will get them posted.) If all goes well, results will be up by end of day Monday, June 23rd.
