In this hands-on workshop parents, teachers and community organizers will learn what it takes to lead their group through the process of making a mosaic mural.
Instructor will guide students through the important steps to ensure the mural will last for years. Class topics covered will include tool use, design transfer, supply sourcing, material calculation, and setting, grouting and sealing the mural and organizing the community of helpers.
On the first day, the class begins at Institute of Mosaic Art with introductions and lecture on design and technique. Participants will then drive together to Markham Elementary School in Oakland to begin the project. On the second day, students will meet at the mural site to complete the mural project.
Students should be prepared to work outside while creating a mosaic mural with ceramic, glass and found objects.
