Discover new mediums for mosaic work in this totally unique workshop.
Visiting Artist Laurel Skye has taken her style of Vetro Tessuto - weaving in glass, one step further in this exciting, new Tapestry workshop. The patches that create these mosaics are made out of glass and beads, similar in style to the time-honored patchwork quilted, embroidered, and embellished fabrics that are pieced together from the beautiful saris and remnants found after weddings and ceremonies in the deserts of Jaipur and Rajasthan.
Students will work within a chosen color scheme, using art glass, millefiori, beads, embroidered trims and so much more, creating a one of a kind miniature tapestry out of mosaics. Students will learn from the instructor how to create a 'fringe" using a certain cutting technique, get creative with design elements, and learn the process of how to 'overlay' patterns and sections to create a crazy quilt effect, in the 'Rajasthani style.'
Instructor will show how to incorporate jewelry, copper tubing, and wire into the patterning, as well as use colored pigments to create the bedding adhesive that will also act as the grout.
Using Laurel Skye's techniques, you will go home with a rich, beautiful mixed-media mosaic tapestry. There will be several examples as options for designing and patterning on display.
Additional specialty millefiori, rhinestone chain, costume jewelry, copper foil, trims and beads will be available for purchase.
