Veteran mixed media artist Madeline Behrens-Brigham takes students through a wonderful journey of creative process and art making in this hands-on, two day workshop. Students of any level will learn how to work with diverse media, including mosaic media such as tile, glass and china, as well as materials from different art and craft disciplines, and how to start thinking "out of the box" about mosaic art making.
A mosaic is an artwork made of of many pieces and parts, and this idea can easily be translated into the use of simple and found objects that are combined in different ways that are meaningful to the creator. Drag all those fun materials you have stashed out of the closet and start putting them together!
Collectors will love this class, in which students are encouraged to experiment and let go of "formal" art making rules and let their imaginations run wild...flea market finds, brick-a-brack, pique assiette, paper collage, natural and found objects, jewelry, toys, buttons, coins, metal.. the sky is the limit to what can be used in New Mosaics...
Class will begin with a presentation of work by artists who combine different materials in a mosaic art making approach-from full blown environments across the globe, to smaller scale niches, altars and assemblage pieces that follow a mixed media approach.
Instructor will show examples of different ways of combining materials for a fresh, exciting and personal art making experience and will encourage students to trust their intuition as they combine materials.
Students can choose from a selection of prepared bases and surfaces to cover for interior display, or they may bring their own. If students bring their own base, this should be bonderized/ (Bonderizer available at Mosaic Studio Supply) BEFORE the start of class.
No grouting will be done in class, but color advice will be to students who want to grout part or all of their piece at home.
Limit 10 students.
