Getting tired of scouting the discount stores for that special item to mosaic?
Learn how to create exactly what you are looking for by using simple armatures and Super Sculpy polymer clay to make that one-of-a-kind sculpture to mosaic for your next project.
This class is perfect for students new to sculpture with some mosaic experience. This method of sculpture making is ideal for creating small- scale interior sculpture for decorative or conceptual projects, model/maquette making for proposals for sculptural work or creating studies for larger works you would like to create
In this two- day workshop with Tracy Broback, students will learn the basic design and display techniques for sculpture as well as techniques for applying mosaic to a small-scale three-dimensional surface. Day one will begin with lecture and demonstration on the properties of Super Sculpy polymer clay and its uses as well as simple armature making. Students will design and execute a small-sale sculpture under the guidance of Instructor. Students may bring design resources-- a photo, drawing etc, use IMA design resources or execute a spontaneous design. Sculptures should be less than 6" tall.
Sculptures will be baked overnight and ready for mosaic application the following day. Lecture on day two will focus on the special considerations of processing materials for and applying mosaic to a small-scale three-dimensional surface.
Students will have several hours to complete the mosaic portion of their project. At the end of the day there will be a brief lecture on grouting. Students will grout their own work at home.
Break free of "found objects" and create something new!
