If you love mosaics, this is the week for you! All kinds of mosaic fun...
Activities will include, a series of lecture and demos for students on different mosaic topics, leading to the design and creation several mosaic pieces in different mosaic media (i.e. fine art mosaics, garden mosaics, wall mosaics, glass mosaics and stone mosaics). Contemporary mosaic slide show and presentation. Discussion on contemporary and historical mosaic topics, guest teachers and/ or lecturers, videos presentations and field trips to local mosaic sites. Students will work on their own pieces to take home, on larger, group projects as well as on smaller mosaic exercises.
Students will be encouraged to stretch the boundaries of mosaics while learning a solid technical base on which to build. We will touch on traditional setting styles and rules and go all the way to crazy contemporary styles. Additional projects may include: casting simple shapes from concrete as bases for mosaics, making a mosaic on a three-dimensional object, making mosaic components on mesh and/or an exterior wall mural near the studio... The sky's the limit!
No art or mosaic experience necessary, but ok too if you do!
Friday class ends at 1:00 followed by a field trip to San Francisco.
Wear your work clothes, bring a lunch, a great attitude and an open mind to camp!
(Sorry, this is not for students who want to work on their own projects from home)
Students will take home a variety of projects for both interior & exterior environments.
