INTERMEDIATE GLASS MOSAICS

Instructor: Erin Rogers
Sessions: 2
Times: Saturday and Sunday 10 - 4
Level: Intermediate
Cost: $195
Prerequisite: Beginning Glass Mosaics or similar

This weekend intensive, intermediate course is designed for continuing glass mosaics students. The instructor will demonstrate the use of a broad range of cutting and shaping tools for glass including scoring tools, breakers, pliers, grinding tools and lens/ circle cutters and demonstrate setting techniques that go beyond the basics. Instructor will present expanded lecture and demonstration of basic setting styles as well as more sophisticated lay patterning including Italian setting styles and use of andamento, shading and color combining.

A broad range of glass media will also be presented, to give students an idea of how to combine different types of glass into one piece and how to best deal with different size and thickness of tesserae.

Students will be guided through a series of short exercises that will help them put into play the expanded lessons and cutting exercises they will receive in the lecture. Students will then design and create a personal project.

Class will focus on finer setting techniques that will allow students to add dimension and sophistication to their work. There will be no grouting in class and some homework may be required depending on complexity of design.

Students may bring their own glass cutting tools, or tools will be provided.
