Join mosaic graffiti enthusiast Laurel True in this unique, hands on class.
Graffiti in its "traditional" sense is thought of as painted and only in public areas. Students in this class will see that graffiti can be made of any media and can be a cool decorative effect in your own backyard or in other situations where permission is granted!
In this one- day course, instructor will begin with an inspiring and cool digital presentation including mosaic graffiti found around the globe from Europe to Africa to the Bay Area.
Specific examples of tile and mosaic graffiti will be shown and different techniques will be presented to create works that need to be applied quickly and which do not require grouting on site, including self- grouting and pre grouting works.
Students will work with ceramic tile, mesh and cement based adhesives including quick setting thin set.
Specific suggestions will be given and techniques presented for application of work. Students will create small pieces that we will apply to the IMA building and other approved surfaces as well as be involved in the installation/ application of a larger, multiple part artwork. Students will also be able to create multiple small, portable pieces to take home and apply at a later time.
Optional evening session 10-11 pm.
IMA and Instructor do not condone or advocate defacement of public property.
