We are writing to let you know that effective August 28, 2016, the Institute of Mosaic Art will suspend its operations and close. After 11 strong years of operation as an education center, gallery and retail store, we are closing out what has been an exciting and rewarding last three years. We have hosted world-renowned Visiting Artists and Instructors, offered core classes taught by our outstanding teaching staff at all levels and hosted top-notch solo and group exhibits in our Gallery. Our full-service retail mosaic supply store has been stocked with high quality materials, some of which are not readily available anywhere else, and has provided expert and personable customer service to students and visitors. We have loved every minute.
We postponed the decision to close as long as we could, but after serious assessment, we have determined that in today’s market it is not possible to continue with our current business model.
We are enormously grateful to our dedicated staff, Rachel Rodi, Jill Stevenson Ritter, Randina Casenza, Carol Bevilacqua, Debbie Block, Amelia Williams, and our General Manager, Laura Paull, whose steadfast dedication and unstinting work has made the last three years possible. We cannot thank you enough.
We do have a full schedule of classes and and two newly added Visiting Artist Workshops to celebrate our final three months. If you have had it on your mind to register in a class or workshop “some day,” that day is upon us now! We hope that many you will enroll in a first or last class at IMA, encourage others to do so, and also take advantage of reduced pricing in the store.
Our final gallery exhibit, Textiles and Tesserae, an exciting group show, will open on July 10th. Please come see it any weekend throughout the summer. We will celebrate the artists as well as our wonderful extended community at our “Grand Closing Party” on August 21st.
Watch this space and our newsletters and Facebook pages for further information as the picture develops.
All this said, anyone with a prospective interest in the business, please address your inquiries to Ilse Cordoni, firstname.lastname@example.org, telephone (510) 898-1174.
